Angelica Murati is 23, studies Asian and African Languages and Cultures in Turin and spent three months in Hangzhou on the Carp programme. She came home with an HSK3.
Why she left
“To understand Chinese better and travel to more local places.” She expected “a welcoming family and a modern city”.
Her experience in China
My experience in China was unforgettable and let me grow both personally and culturally. At the beginning everything was new and different, but over time I learned to adapt and to enjoy a lifestyle completely different from mine, like eating 拉面 for breakfast 😂. I met fantastic people (the other Nice girls too), made new friends and discovered traditions, food and places that left me beautiful memories.
Living with the host family “was a bit strange at first, but then it became the best part of the experience in China”. What she remembers most fondly are “the evenings with my host family: at first we were a little shy, but day after day we grew closer”.
The best moment and the hardest part
The best moment: “my trip to Chongqing, a few days before leaving for Italy for good”. The hardest part: “the language barrier. At the beginning communicating was not easy, but I tried to learn more Chinese words and not to be afraid of making mistakes. Day after day I managed to communicate better and better”.
How it changed her
“I learned to communicate better and to see cultural differences as a chance to grow.” She would recommend Nice Exchange “because they are very organised and they are there to help you with everything”.
